Overbury 1st XI v Leamington Cricket Club Third XI on Sat 28 Aug 2010 at 1.30pm
Leamington Cricket Club Won by 69 runs
Match report
Travelling to Overbury the 3's still had a slim chance of surviving relegation on the final weekend of fixtures. Batting first on a seamer friendly pitch at the picturesque Overbury Leamington were soon reduced to 28-4 with only Rob Ainscow reaching double figures, before chipping one to mid on. This brought together skipper Matt Dale and club stalwart David Lord who put on a modest 31 for the 5th wicket scoring 19 & 9 respectively to steady the ship. Their quick departure again saw the Spa men in strife but youngsters Harry Phillpot and Tom Davison made light of conditons by scoring 24 & 23 and helping push the score along to 140-8 off 45 overs, a challenging half way total.
In reply Overbury got off to the worst possible start and found themselves 15-6 inside 10 overs. Openers Faisal Khalid & Tom Davison produced a fine display of swing bowling to return figures of 8-1-23-3 (Khalid) & 7-4-8-3 (Davison) a situation Overbury never recovered from. To add to their woes Rob Grant came on 2nd change to mop up the innings for 70 all out with figures of 6.5-0-15-4 with a typical display of line and length bowiling (boring is his description). Rob was backed up well by Nathan Credge who bowled 7 economical overs. A fine victory was overshadowed as Overbury had secured enopugh points from the game to stay above leamington by 3 points. 3 wins out of the last 5 games with 2 abandoned was a great finsh to the season. Oh for the August sunshine.
