STRATFORD upon AVON v Leamington Cricket Club Second XI on Sat 14 May 2011 at 12.30
Leamington Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets.
Match report
Leamington returned from Stratford with a resounding 24 point win, but, against stronger opposition, they will have to bowl and field much better. Batting first after winning the toss, Stratfords opening batsmen were afforded too many balls on either side of the wicket and they soon raced to 35-0. Tom Warner was unlucky to have 2 slip chances missed, his pace too much for the batsman and the startled slip cordon. However, as last week, Faisal Khalid from one end tied up the scoring, but, runs leaked worryingly from the other. His control was rewarded with a fine analysis of 15-4-39-4. After the 50 overs Stratford had racked up a very healthy 250-7.
Leamingtons response started disastrously with Jack Hawkes caught at slip off the first ball. Swann and Dave Hawkes added 34 before the latter departed also caught at slip. Hard hitting Simon Magill crunched his first ball for 4 and the rest off the innings was a formality as the batsmen smashed some very poor bowling all around the park and the target was achieved in only the 40th over. Richard Swan (78) Magill(45) and skipper Uddin(68*)
A comprehensive victory pushed Leamington to the top of the League, but, to maintain this giddy height, we must improve on the basics of line and length bowling and catching!!
