Match report A fantastic game of cricket!! Batting first on a beautiful wicket, Old Hill got off to a very good start as young opening bowlers Davison and debutant Paul Lawrence struggled to find the right length. After 10 overs they had reached 60-0 and a massive score beckoned. However, for once, all of Leamingtons bowlers stuck well to their collective task and after 50 overs the total had reached 240-4. The feeling was that 240 was 40 short,a thought that was backed up by the home groundsman!!
The reply got off to a steady start as Swanny(23) and Besty(18) quelled the pacy opening bowlers only to get out whilst well set. Dave Hawkes(47) got off the mark first ball with a towering hooked six and along with skipper Uddin(44) got the chase well and truly on track. However, both will be very disappointed to have got out to rash shots and not finish the job. Chris Stearn(30) got the equation down to 18 needed off 3 overs with 3 wickets in hand. But he was bowled to leave Guarav (16*) and Tom Davison needing an unlikely 14 off the last over. A couple of singles off the first 2 balls left young Tom facing, the returning Aussie pace bowler let go his 3rd ball only to see it smashed over long on for six!! 6 needed off 3 balls...... next ball was a low full toss which was dispatched for another great 6 and the smiles, handshakes and cheers that followed only transported the jubilant team onto a higher plain of joy!!
Although Tom and Guarav rightly deserved the accolades at the end, the real heroes were all of the bowlers and the superb fielding effort that kept Old Hill from scoring 280.
