WOLVERHAMPTON v Leamington Cricket Club Second XI on Sat 17 Sep 2011 at 12.30
Leamington Cricket Club Lost by 6 wkts
Match report
Although a loss was recorded, some very encouraging performances by several U15 players bode well for the future. Put in on a green wicket, Leamington found themselves in early trouble against a disciplined Wolverhampton attack. However, from 8-2, Jack Hawkes and Billy Hallett put on a superb partnership of 96. In particular, Billy showed excellent patience, very sound technique and superb shot selection. It was a shame that both batsen fell without registering their respective 50s. From 104-2, Leamington capitulated to 157 all out, with only a cameo 16 fron second team debutant Raj Jabarkhail worthy of mention.
With a depleted attack, stand in skipper Dave Hawkes opened up with Dan MaCarthy and the left arm spin of 15 year old Raj Jabarkhail. Although they did not take a wicket the pair bowled really well, especially Raj who showed superb variation and great control. He should be able to cement a regular second team place on this showing. Will Field got the initial breakthrough, but it was the father and son Hawkes duo that started a bit of a wobble in the Wolverhampton innings, so much so at 111-6 an unexpected win was on the cards. But, the hosts showed just why they are Division Champions and they coasted to victory with no further loss. In summary, a very encouraging team performance considering the young nature of the XI.
