Match report A return to action after 2 weeks of abandoned games saw the IIIs entertain Bidford on Avon. Having been asked to bat first and an array of batting talent from yester year available to skipper Dale Leamington got off to a steady start on a slow wicket with Ainscow and young Jack Bewick putting on 37 for the first wicket. The dismall of both openers brought together the powerhouses of Dave Hawkes and Wayne Killian who complied a steady partnership of 59 with unusually lots of singles mixed with a few sixes. Under some steady and accurate bowling from Bidford the IIIs slip to 130-5 after 36 overs. Hawkes compiled his 5th consecutive Cotswold hills half century and along with skipper Dale 28 not out helped Leam reach a competitive 183-7 off their allotted overs. A short rain delay reduced Bidfords target to 167 off 41 overs.
Leam knew accurate bowling would make the visitors chase difficult and this turned out to be the case. Juniors Asad Ullah and Joe Somra produced an accurate opening spell removing both opener and number 3 batter respectively. Old timers Hawkes with his medium pace and Killian with his wily slow left area conceded 41 runs off their 20 overs picking up 4 wickets with Hawkes taking 3-20. This pretty much strangled the run chase and left Liam Killian to pick up the last 3 wickets with a mixed spell of bouncers, full tosses, boundaries and wickets eventually dismissing Bidford for 115.
A solid all round display helped produce a much needed win and next week sees The IIIs travel to Bidford for the return fixture at the halfway point of the season.
