Match report Leamington 1st XI suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Walsall, losing by 9 wickets.

Having lost a crucial toss on a damp wicket, Walsall had no hesitation in electing to bowl first. Due to the damp conditions, play was delayed until 12.55 with the match being reduced to 47 overs aside. When play got underway, Walsall took full advantage of the helpful bowling conditions and bowled an immaculate line and length, making runs very hard to come by for the Leamington batsmen. Freeman (9-4-22-2) took the early wickets of Balac and Cheshire before Bailey (20) and Hopkins (31) took the score to 46. However, the introduction of Byrne (15-3-35-4) and the returning Bowker (12-5-31-2) firmly swung the momentum back towards Walsall as Leamington continued to lose wickets and could never really get the innings going. A late flurry from Talati (25) saw Leamington reach 123-9 at the close of their 47 overs.

In reply, on a wicket that began to dry due to the sunny conditions, the Leamington attack were unable to apply the same pressure that Walsall applied and made light work of their reply. South African overseas star, Jonker, smashed his way to a rapid 77 off only 49 balls which included six 4's and six 6's. Jonker shared an opening partnership of 117 with Wicker (39*) who carried his bat to see his side home to victory. Talati took the only wicket.

Overall it was a bad day at the office for Leamington who travel to Knowle and Dorridge next Saturday where they will be keen to get their season up and running.
