Match report This was an excellent game of cricket. Put into bat, Leamington made a steady start with Richard Swann and Ben Howard reaching 38 before the impressive Howard shouldered arms and saw his off stump knocked over. Swann soon departed and Jack Hawkes went for 12 to leave the home team struggling on 62-4. However, OAP Dave Hawkes and skipper James Uddin repaired the damage to great effect by putting on 155 for the 5th wicket. Uddin went for a well made 62 and in the dying overs Dave Hawkes was out caught on the boundary looking for a 6 that would have taken him to a well deserved century. A final total of 251ao was a good effort on a wicket that offered some lateral movement.
The Old Hill reply started very well and at drinks Leamington were staring down the barrel at a humiliating defeat with the score on 126-0. A blistering team talk during the interval seemed to galvanise the team, the fielding which had previously been terrible sharpened up immeasurably and the bowlers started to exert pressure by bowling dot balls. Reluctant bowler Jack Hawkes was called up and along with Jason Butler took the wickets which got the home team back into the game. With all results still possible, Old Hill needed 22 off the final 2 overs with 4 wickets in hand, but, with calm authority Hawkes and young Paul Lawrence kept their wits and the final score meant Old Hill were 5 runs short of a famous victory.
