Match report Leamington showed a marked improvement on recent performances in gaining a winning draw at home to fellow strugglers Brewood on Saturday.

Batting first ona scorching day, Leamington lost two quick wickets, but this allowed Paul Best to join Shabaaz Alam, and they began to find Brewood's bowling to their liking. Continuing his recent fine form, Alam raced along at a run a ball in compiling a magnificent 147, as he flayed the bowling to all parts. Best made 71 in a welcome return to form for the Club. Leamington kicked on through Lee Hopkins (42) and Simon Magill (21*) and their innings closed on a daunting 322 - 6. For Brewood, Morney Heyeke took 3 for 95.

In reply, Brewood showed that their main goal was to avoid defeat, and this they managed - just! Leamington rotated their bowlers to good effect, and they kept chipping away at Brewood's line up. Two wickets each for openers Olly Williams and Tom Warner were followed by four from Grant Thornton in an excellent display, and a single success for veteran Neil Smith. Brewood were held together by Heyeneke's 69, and although Leamington had an over or two at the last pair, they were unable to claim a deserved win, as Brewood finished on 235 - 9. Leamington take 18 points however, as they move off the bottom of the table.
