Match report Nick Couzens' maiden century helped guide Leamington to victory in their Arden League season opener at Fillongley.
Already reduced to 10 men due to a late illness, Leamington had much to do after being asked to field first. Despite a brisk start from Fillongley, who passed 60 before the tenth over had been completed, Leamington managed to regain some control to restrict their hosts to 193-6. Muhammed Dogar was the leading bowler taking 3-12 off his eight accurate overs, but he was well supported by fourteen year old Oliver Horswill who took two wickets and demonstrated good control and movement throughout his spell.
Leamington's fielding was also of a high standard, with the highlight being a sharp one handed catch from Dogar at mid wicket.
Leamington's response got off to an unfortunate start with Dogar being adjudged LBW early on. This brought Couzens to the crease who managed to dominate the Fillongley bowlers from the outset, with excellent running to accompany some aggressive stroke play. Couzens' innings formed the backbone of Leamington's reply, but he was well supported by Cameron Mitchell, also fourteen, who managed to register his first senior half century, before being caught for an elegant 54.
Despite a minor collapse towards the end of the innings, Leamington managed to get over the line in the 36th over, with four wickets in hand, thanks to a slog over mid wicket by Karan Patra for six, to conclude a promising performance from a youthful Leamington side.
