Match report A top performance by the III's in this top of the table clash saw Leam win by 9 wickets. Winning the toss on an overcast and rainy day was a big plus as Leamington asked Long Itchington to bat first. With the match reduced to 34 overs per side the IIIs got off to a good start removing both openers inside the first 3 overs with Paul Lawrence and Rob Grant grabbing a wicket apiece, Lawrence snarred another victem in his opening spell leaving Long Itch 23-3 off 9 overs. Cox and Perks steadied the ship for a while putting on 74 for the 3rd wicket before Perks was run out and rain brought about an early tea.
Resuming 97-4 after tea with 13 overs to go Long Itch looked in fair shape to set the visitors a tough total, but a fiery spell by Sumo and the returning Lawrence saw Long Itch lose the last 6 wickets for 25 runs and finshed all out for 122 off 30.5 overs. Youngster Lawrence finished with figures of 7.5-1-23-4 and Sumo 7-0-23-3.
In reply the III's needed 101 off 31 overs and they started well with Dave Hawkes and Harry Philpot putting on 69 for the 1st wicket before Philpot departed for a well made 28. With the in-form Dave Hawkes not out on 52 and very much in control he and Gethin saw Leam to 88-1 off 20 overs before more rain came and took the players off. After the rain eased the target for the vistors was reduced to 90 need, with 5 overs left, this was achieved with the 1st ball after the resumption and saw victory achieved by 9 wickets. This win sees the III's confirm promotion and streches their lead at the top of the table to 22 points, 4 points in the last game of the season next week home to Warwick County Council would secure the league.
