Match report A glorious sunny day greeted the 3rds for their first game of the season, an away friendly versus Rowington.
Asked to bat first earlier in the week, which was gladly accepted, excitement was abound before the first delivery was bowled. On a slow pitch and outfield Leamington's openers Matt Dale and debutant Dan Clarkson got Leamington off to a steady start and were 70 runs to the good before Dale departed after a rash shot to the left spinner for 24. Clarkson continued to play shots to all parts of the ground and was supported by a brief cameo by Wayne Killian before 2 quick wickets meant a slight rebuilding period. Clarkson who finished unbeaten for a fine 73 not out and had James Cowan (18) and young Jujar Johal 19 not out for support which saw Leamington close on 172-4 off 40 overs which was slightly above par on this early season wicket.

In reply Leamington nearly got off to the perfect start with a wicket off the first ball only for it to be called a no ball (1 of 13 bowled). It wasn't long before the youthful opening bowling pair of Matthew Davison and Asad made inroads to the Rowington attack who were floundering at 32-3. But a rebuilding partnership off 46 saw Rowington back on track and an interesting finish looked imminent. Wiley spinner Killian was miserly as ever and was well supported by young leg spinner Jujar who took a wicker with his 2nd delivery and bowled with fantastic control. A solid partnership of over hundred by Rowington 4th wicket pair saw them home comfortably in the end with 3.3 overs to spare.
Quite simply 47 extras was the downfall for Leamington and this was Rowingtons second top scorer but a good opening gambit for the 2013 season played in the right spirit will hold us on good stead.
