Leamington Cricket Club Lost By 68 Runs

Match report Leamington will be disappointed not to have come away from their match with Barnt Green with a win after a second batting collapse in as many weeks saw them slip to a 68 run defeat.

Leamington won the toss and immediately had Barnt Green on the back foot as the excellent Jason Young (4-47 off 12 overs) reduced Barnt Green to 19-3. Young had Newport caught at first slip with the second ball of the game before bowling Ord and Shilvock soon after. Talati then bowled the dangerous Wilkinson to make it 70-4 but this would be the only success for a while as Crowe and Brown but on 115 for the fifth wicket. Purser eventually bowled Crowe for a well compliled 87 but Brown 94* saw his team to 240-6 before declaring two overs early, confident of securing a victory for his team.

In reply, Leamington never really got going as the top order all got starts but no one played the much required match winning innings to secure victory. Hopkins (40) and Bailey (32) were the main contributors to a disappointing final score of 172 all out. The middle and lower order were blown away by the very impressive Wilkinson who finished with excellent figures of 5-20 off 9 overs.
