Leamington Cricket Club 1st XI v MOSELEY on Sat 28 May 2011 at 12 noon
Leamington Cricket Club Won By 2 Wickets
Match report
Leamington 1st XI won a thrilling match by two wickets, off the last ball of the game, against Moseley at Arlington Avenue. The win will give the team a much needed lift after a difficult run saw them lose two in a succession.
Winning the toss, Leamington elected to bowl and got off to the perfect start with Young removing Stanley for 0 off the first ball of the game. Moseley then staged a recovery through Jones (37) and Shabir (28). However, once the latter was removed Moseley slipped to 120-5 before Robinson (39) and former Leamington player, Usman Awan (24) helped to set a competitive 200 to win. For Leamington, the wickets were shared around as Francis, Young, Khalid and Talati all took two wickets, while Michael Balac took two excellent stumpings.
In reply, Leamington put on 41 for the first wicket before slipping to 51-3, and then 77-4. However, Tom Lewis and Balac (35) put on 73 for the fifth wicket before Lewis was given out dubiously, LBW, for an excellent 55. Leamington then lost another couple of wickets in quick succession and required 27 off the last four overs with three wickets in hand. Talati kept his nerve to finish an excellent all-round display with 20*and was the man who secured the victory hitting the two required off the final ball to help Leamington record a much needed victory which now sees them sitting in mid-table. For Moseley, Gordon did his best to prevent a Leamington victory with figures of 4-59 but, in the end, Leamington just crept over the finish line.
