Match report Leamington 1st XI produced another excellent performance for the second successive week to see the side push themselves up to sixth in the table.

Shrewsbury won the toss and elected to bowl first on what proved to be a fantastic cricket wicket. From the first ball Leamington played very positively as Balac (29) and Phillips put on 63 for the first wicket. Leamington then slipped to 71-2 before Tom Lewis joined Phillips at the crease as the pair put on a magnificent 176 for the third wicket. The pair showed great maturity as the partnership was based on a combination of quick singles and powerful strikes. Phillips eventually fell for 125 (141 balls, 7 x 4, 4 x 6) while Lewis was bowled towards the end of the innings for 90. By this point, the damage had been done as Leamington finished the innings on an imposing 300-6 off their 55 overs. Only Rob Foster (17-0-67-2) came to terms with the conditions for Shrewsbury.

In reply, despite a very aggressive start through Ed Foster (21) and Bishop (42), Shrewsbury lost wickets at regular intervals as most of the top order all got starts, but none could play the match-winnings innings that was required. Lewis backed his excellent innings up with economical bowling figures of (14-4-40-2) and he was well supported by Paul Best (17-1-48-3) and the in-form Young (9-1-45-2) who both bowled with excellent control through the middle overs. Despite a spirited 43 from Donhaldson, Shrewsbury, after the positive start, were always behind the run rate and finished the innings hanging on for a losing draw on 224-9. Leamington ended the day with 18 valuable points against last seasons champions.
