Match report Leamington suffered an eight wicket defeat playing away against high-flying Himley. Once again, Leamington lost the toss and were asked to bat on a pitch that proved to offer a bit for the Himley bowlers.
Nevertheless, the openers started well as Phillips (22) added 68 for the first wicket with Michael Balac, in particular, taking the attack to the opening bowlers with a well constructed 53. However, after losing a few wickets, runs started to become hard to come by with very tight bowling from Harrison (17-3-42-2) and Tranter (16-2-57-4). Leamington were, however, saved from setting a modest total by clean hitting from Warwickshire player Paul Best (58 from 51 balls) and Jason Young (35 from 25 balls) in an eight wicket partnership of 63. Leamington ended on a very defendable 232 for 9.
In reply, Himley lost their first wicket to the bowling of Tom Lewis in the second over. However, with Leamington only bowling well in short periods, an impressive second wicket partnership of 179 between Greg Wright (88) and former Indian Test player Wasim Jaffer (102*) ensured that the home side reached the required target with ease.
A disappointing result for Leamington who have struggled to win away from home so far this year. The team must regroup to take on top of the table Barnt Green next week.
