Shrewsbury v Leamington Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 02 Jul 2011 at 12.30
Leamington Cricket Club Won by 4 wkts
Match report
The seconds made the long trip to Shrewsbury and came away with a hard fought victory.
On winning the toss, Leamington put their hosts in to bat on a strangely mottled and mossy wicket. They made very good progress, scoring quite freely to reach 100-2 off 20 overs, however after 36 overs they had stuttered to 180-8. But, some wayward bowling let them off the hook and somehow the home team amassed 272ao off 47.1 overs. Again, all of the bowlers bowled well in patches, but gave away too many easy runs.
The extra 2 overs gained were to prove crucial as the winning run was scored in the 52 over. The chase was built around a superb 2 wicket partnership of 123 between Richard Swann(70) and Jack Hawkes(44). Once they had been dismissed, Leamingtons powerful batting line up came to the fore with excellent contributions from Magill(25), Uddin (31), Williams(35) and Dave Hawkes(30*)ensuring a thrilling final over victory against a very good young side.
