Leamington Cricket Club 3rd XI v OVERBURY 1st XI on Sat 12 May 2012 at 13:30
Leamington Cricket Club Won by 7 wkts

Match report A steady start to the IIIs CHL campagin commenced at Arlington Avenue on Saturday. Visitors Overbury lost the toss and were not surprisingly asked to bat first. Opening bowlers Pardeep and Liam Killian maintained an accurate opening spell and dismissed both openers cheaply taking a wicket apiece from their opening bursts. First change bowler the evergreen David Hawkes rolled back the years and produced a miserly spell of 10-4-21-2 including a somewhat disappointing hat-trick ball. Offspiner Sanjeevan bowled well on a slow wicket conceding just 21 off his 6 overs.
Regular wickets fell including a 2 sharp run outs one a direct hit from the boundry by the spritely Hawkes and stubborn defence from Overbury skipper Brookes looked like helping Overbury set a tricky target. With bowlers scarce to come by skipper Matt Dale had to bowl himself for the first time since 1997 !!!! and in an eventful spell manged to take a wicket drop a catch (some might say catches) and and generally cause much confusion with his well flighted offspin. Along with the returning Killian who took 2 more wickets the Overbury innings was wrappred up for 127 in the 41st over.
In reply regualr opener Rob Ainscow strapped on his pads for the first time since last August and strode to the crease as normal, I for one expected a flurry of boundires (as usual) but the crowd was left rather flat as Ainscow was dismissed 2nd ball bowled off his pads. This brought the equally well practiced Wollaston to the crease to accompany Hawkes. Wollaston survived slighty better before being dimsissed for 6 leaving a well pitched up delivery which cut back sharply to knock his off stump over. Guy Stanton casually strode to the crease with the score at 10-2 and the target of 128 looking a distant target. A period of consolidation saw Hawkes & Stanton survive an excellent spell from Overbury skipper Brookes and steady the innings with a partnership 75 before Stanton departed for a well made 31 which included a few lusty boundries. Whilst all the time the patient Hawkes was compling a match winning innings at the other end. Pardeep joined Hawkes at the crease and made short work of the remaing 30 odd runs with a flurry of boundires each to leave Hawkes 61 not out and Pardeep 22 not out.
Overall a solid performace by the IIIs in their opening game of the season, good preperation before the local derby against Long Itchington next week..........rain permitting. (dont think this will be a problem as the weather is always sunny at Long Itch)
