Match report Leamington 1st XI continued their difficult start to the season with an 8 wicket defeat at title contenders Knowle & Dorridge.

Having delayed the start of play until 3.55pm due to a wet outfield and wicket, Leamington lost the toss and were asked to bat and were soon one wicket down as Piolet dismissed Bailey in the first over. However, Leamington recovered thanks to the returning duo of Alex Phillips (24) and Will Tavare (33) before Phillips was unfortunately run out backing up at the non-strikers end. An aggressive 28 from Sam Cheshire and a useful 19 from Jason Young took the final score to 132-9 off 25 overs. At one stage Leamington looked set to reach 150 but Warwickshire's Steff Piolet returned excellent figures (8-1-40-6) and mixed his pace up excellently to ensure Leamington did not reach 150.

In reply, Leamington started excellently through the bowling of Jason Young (7.5-1-30-2) and Faisal Khalid (8-1-43-0) as Knowle & Dorridge stumbled to 27-2 as Young had Smith (9) caught at slip and then bowled Piolet (0) during his excellent opening burst. However, Sam Reddish (48*) carried his bat and formed an excellent partnership with Chishti (62*) as the pair added an unbeaten 107 for the third wicket to see their team home, despite the fading light, with seven balls to spare.

Leamington should take some confidence from their performance as the bowling was much improved on the previous week and will be looking to take this with them when they face West Bromwich Dartmouth next week at Arlington Avenue.
