Leamington Cricket Club 2nd XI v SHREWSBURY on Sat 21 Jul 2012 at 12.30 pm
Match was Drawn 8 points
Match report
A period of brainless cricket cost Leamington a much needed victory on Saturday.
Chasing 235 on a decent wicket, the Spa men got off the a great start and at 30 overs the scoreboard read a very healthy 130-1 with Dave Hawkes (75) and Mark Lewis(44)scoring with relative ease. However, once Lewis was bowled off his pads, wickets were given away with some reckless cricket. From a match winning position the home team were hanging on at the close 9 down.
Earlier, the Shrewsbury batsmen struggled against some fine seam bowling by the 16 year old duo of Will Field and Paul Lawrence. Both young men should be regular first teamers in the very near future. However, the back up bowlers failed to exert the same pressure and the scoreboard ticked over without ever getting out of control. A final total of 234 was well within the grasp of a long batting line up but, the win was ultimately thrown away.
