Match report Leamington 1st XI kept their hopes alive of reamaining in Division 1 of the Birmingham League with a nail-biting win at home to Bromsgrove.

Batting first, Bromsgrove lost both openers without scoring as Leamington's Paul Rowe and Tom warner bowled testing spells. This brought Worcestershire stars Alexei Kervezee and George Rhodes to the crease and they took the score to 42, before Darrel Williams removed Dutch cap Kervezee. Williams proceeded to dismiss Rhodes and Cordes as he bowled an excellent spell, deserving of his figures of 3 for 30. Bromsgrove's middle and late order rallied, led by Tom Underhill, and they posted a reasonable 199 All Out, as Warner returned to close the innings in the last over. There were two wickets also for Leamington's experienced off spinner Neil Smith.

Leamington set about the chase in confident fashion as Shabaaz Alam and Mark Best added 60 for the first wicket, before Alam fell for 26. Best, went on to make 76, continuing to accumulate steadily and further productive partnerships were built with David Bailey (30) and elder brother Paul (20). However Leamington's march towards an easy win was halted abruptly as they subsided from 167 - 2 to 173 - 6, and then to 186 for 8, as Keverzee and Underhill, Bromsgrove's seventh and eighth choice, brought the visitors back into the game. However Smith and Warner saw Leamington home without further loss, Smith despatching the winning shot high over long on for 6, as Leamington reached 205 for 8.

Leamington remain in the relagtion zone, 14 points adrift of Moseley, but with 40 still to play for. They host Shifnal at home on Saturday 12 Noon start.
