Leamington Cricket Club 2nd XI v Wolverhampton on Sat 27 Apr 2013 at 12.30pm
Leamington Cricket Club Lost by 2 wickets

Match report The Second XI were at home to old rivals Wolverhampton, and it was the visitors who eased home in a close match. Leamington were indebted to a fine 75 from Richard Swann in his first knock of the season. He was given support from Simon Magill with 25 and a captain’s innings of 43 from Jason Butler. Leamington’s total of 204, however, always seemed about 20 runs light on a good pitch. Disappointingly, the hosts failed to bat out their overs against a Wolves attack that was steady at best. Two wickets for Chapman and Turner.

A brief stoppage for rain reduced Wolves target slightly, and the result was always in the balance after the tea break. Leamington changed the bowling frequently, and kept chipping away at the Wolves batting line up. However, the Spa men’s generosity in bowling 29 wides meant they were never able to maintain control of the match. Wolves eventually crossed the winning line for a two wicket win in the penultimate over ending on 198 for 8. Not surprisingly the winning run was wide! Two wickets each for Will Field, Dan McCarthy and Gareth Strangwood; one for Asaad Qureshi.

Although disappointed with defeat, Butler’s men will take heart from their overall performance, knowing if they had bowled with more discipline they would have beaten a decent Wolverhampton team.
