Shrewsbury v Leamington Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 06 Jul 2013 at 12.30pm
Leamington Cricket Club Lost by 3 Wickets

Match report Leamington were left frustrated on their long trip to Shrewsbury, losing a tight game off the penultimate ball.

Leamington's total of 223 for 9 owed much to a fifth wicket partnership between Jim Gethins and Jack Hawkes, who came together with Leamington wobblin at 39 for 4. Gethins made 79 and Hawkes went one better with 80, but they received little support from their fellow batsmen. James Codling took four wickets for Shrews who were pleased to restrict Leamington to a par score.

In contrast to Leamington, Shrewsbury's batsmen made contributions throughout the order, though none reached fifty. The slow bowling of Hawkes and Gethins, both Spa men enjoying excellent all-round games, kept the visitors in the hunt.

However the Achilles Heel of extras - which runs through the club's senior sides - meant that Shrewsbury were able to use the extra balls wisely and were grateful for the donation of 34 runs. Thus they were able to squeeze past Leamington with a ball to spare, ending on 225 -8.
