Wolverhampton v Leamington Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 13 Jul 2013 at 12.30pm
Match was Drawn Losing Draw

Match report Leamington Seconds stopped the rot following two successive defeats with a gutsy performance on Saturday, claiming a losing draw at Wolverhampton.

The hosts batted first on a beautiful, hot day, and made a good start against Leamington’s seam attack, adding 90 for the first wicket. The introduction of spinners Jim Gethins and jack Hawkes pulled things back for Leamington, as the Danescourt Road track began to take exaggerated turn. The Wolves batsmen played the spin well, obviously used to the conditions, and despite a tenacious display from all Leamington’s bowlers took tea on 236 -8 after 50 overs. This seemed a par score on a dry wicket offering help to the slow bowlers but with a fast outfield.

Leamington made a bright start, mainly through the flashing blade of Richard Swann who made a breezy 35. He was the first of four quick wickets for Wolves skipper Alan Chapman, who bowled his off-breaks with great authority. Leamington regrouped through Hawkes and Jason Butler, and whilst victory was rarely in sight, their solid partnership ensured safety for Leamington. Hawkes made 34, and Butler 54, as Leamington secured a losing draw ending on 191 – 8. Chapman took five wickets in total, but he was unable to find sufficient penetration from his Wolves team-mates to force victory
