Match report For the second successive season Leamington III opened their league programme against strong opponents, this year welcoming reigning champions, Shipston on Stour. Leamington went in to the game in good heart following two convincing victories over local opponents, but this match soon turned in to master class from two of Shipston’s most talented players. On winning the toss Shipston invited their hosts to bat first and opened the bowling with the internationally experienced David Saker (10-3-21-3), who completed his first over by having opener Gill caught at the wicket before a run had been scored. Although James Cowan’s adventurous innings (28) took advantage of some waywardness from Ireland, by the end of Saker’s sixth over he had reduced Leamington 40-4. Wayne Killian (39) firstly with Richard Bate (27) then Stuart Magill (36) took the innings to 144-6, but it soon subsided to 183 all out. With a short boundary and a good wicket that was never going to be enough. Opener Matt Corby showed why he is one of the best batsmen in the league as he plundered the bowling almost at will until he was brilliantly caught by Liam Killian for 99. Jason Murphy added 45 as Shipston romped home in just 24 overs.
