WELLESBOURNE v Leamington Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 04 Jul 2015 at 13.30
Leamington Cricket Club Lost 28 runs
Match report
When Leamington travelled to Wellesbourne, last Saturday, the hosts were looking to avenge the previous week’s defeat. Wellesbourne batted first and opener Gary Maynard set off as if he wanted the outcome settled by tea. When an optimistic charge at the bowling of David Lord (4-43) lead to him being stumped for 106 the score stood at 156 – 1 in only the 26th. over. After his departure Lord and Jack Hawkes (4-36) exerted some control and the final 20 overs yielded less than 90 runs with only Shearsby (23) and Stephenson (21*) making significant contributions as Wellesbourne closed at 240. An opening stand of 121 at a rate of 6 per over by Liam Killian (60) and James Cowan (53) seemed to have set Leamington on course for a second win over their near neighbours. But after Killian was dismissed in the 26th. over with the score at 141, Harry Jackman (3-35) and skipper Stephenson (3-49), backed by some fine fielding, slowly strangled the run chase and the innings subsided to close at 212 – 8, 28 runs short. Tom Davison (20) and Hawkes (23) were the only others to make significant contributions.
