Solihull Municipal A v Leamington Cricket Club Sunday XI on Sun 03 May 2015 at 14.00
Leamington Cricket Club Lost by 3 wickets
Match report
Sunday saw Leamington make their debut in the Arden Cricket League, playing away at Solihull Municipal Cricket Club. The cold temperature was not conducive for cricket, and the damp conditions forced the contest to be reduced to 37 overs per side.
After losing the toss, an inexperienced Leamington side were asked to bat first, which found the top order struggle to get to grips with some accurate bowling from the hosts. However, Jonathan Wigley's entrance to the crease substantially increased the scoring rate for the visitors;he played several expansive and classy shots in a well played 62. Mark Davison (52), proved to be excellent support for Wigley, who's experience helped guide Leamington to what seemed to be a competitive score of 186.
The Solihull batsmen made an aggressive start to the run chase after tea, capitalising on some unpredictable bowling from the Leamington seamers. All rounder Liam Killian managed to regain some control with a good spell of off-spin bowling and, along with Andrew Jarvis, helped to keep Leamington in the game. However, numerous dropped chances went against Leamington, which enabled Solihull to take victory in the last over with three wickets to spare.
