Leamington Cricket Club 3rd XI v Wellesbourne on Sat 16 Jul 2016 at 13.30
Leamington Cricket Club Won 52 runs
Match report
A devastating spell of bowling by Leamington’s Muhammad Dogar (6-24) brought Wellesbourne’s impressive, perfect sequence of ten consecutive victories to a juddering halt. A spell of five wickets for no runs in a space of three overs took out Wellesbourne’s entire middle order. At 47-7 Tom Shearsby (71 not) joined opener David Barnett and the pair steadily staged a recovery, adding 80 until Barnett fell to a spectacular catch by David Lord, who, running across the flight of a lofted drive, jumped to bring down the ball in one hand. Barnett was left to wonder what had happened as the Leamington players ran to congratulate their team-mate. It was a critical moment but Wellesbourne were not finished, yet, and Shearsby rallied the tail to add a further 53, inching towards the target, before Lord struck again to dismiss Abbott with wicket-keeper Dale both catching and stumping the batsman from the same ball, and the innings closing at 179
A 28 over opening stand of 139, by Wayne Killian (83) and James Cowan (56), had got the Leamington innings off to a good start. Following the dismissal of the opening pair, Tom Stephenson and Andy Kerrigan began to tightened the grip on the run rate and wickets were lost in attempt to set a defendable total in the remaining overs and it took some lusty blows by Dugar (37 not) to push the run rate beyond 5-an-over, with the innings closing at 231-7.
