Ombersley v Leamington Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 28 May 2016 at 12.00
Leamington Cricket Club Lost by 8 wickets

Match report Leamington’s First string slipped to an eight-wicket defeat at Ombersley on Saturday and remain rooted to the bottom of the Birmingham League Premier Division. Leamington arrived at the Worcestershire ground to find that, mysteriously, an overnight thunderstorm had left the covered wicket wet, though the rest of the square was dry! This made the toss vital, and once again, Leamington called incorrectly and were asked to bat first on a strip that favoured the bowlers. Only a partnership between Alex Mellor and Jon Wigley saw Leamington in any sort of control. Warwickshire’s Mellor made 30 and Wigley 40, but when the latter was dismissed with the score on 98, Leamington’s middle and late order failed to contribute, and a total of 115 was below par, even on a sub-standard wicket. For Ombersley, Neil Slade took 5 for 21, supported by Andy Robertson’s 2 for 16.

There was still some devil in the wicket as Tom Warner and Matt Davison each took an early wicket. The pitch began to dry and it became easier for batting. Ombersley eased through the gears as Uday Kaul with an unbeaten 44 and 35 not out from Nick Hammond saw Ombersley ease home by 8 wickets. Although well-beaten, Leamington will feel that the rub of the green is against them, as a below-par wicket contributed to a defeat for the second time in three weeks.
