Leamington Cricket Club Sunday XI v Old Hill on Sun 01 May 2016 at 12.00
Leamington Cricket Club Won by 5 Wickets
Match report
Leamington’s promise was underlined on Sunday with a well-judged win in the ECB National Club Championship at home to Old Hill. The match had been abandoned the previous Sunday, and damp conditions meant a 30 over a side game was played. Batting first Old Hill lost two quick wickets as Mohammed Tahir and Lee Credgington struck, the latter striking again as Old Hill limped to 37 – 3. 53 from Hamza Ahmed steadied the Black Country outfit, and he received some support from the middle order. Karan Patra’s box of tricks flummoxed many batters however, and his 5 for 25 in 6 overs frustrated Old Hill’s attempts to build a large total. Their innings ended on 148 – 9, a testing but reachable total. In response Jon Wigley and Nick Couzens fell cheaply, but the experienced David Hawkes was joined by Nathan Hooker and they progressed to 70 before Hooker was bowled for 34. Hawkes fell soon after for 29, but Lee Hopkins took on the chase and his breezy undefeated 53, saw Leamington ease to 152 - 5 and a five wicket win with an over to spare.
