Southam v Leamington Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 30 Apr 2011 at 1.30
Leamington Cricket Club Lost by 32 runs.
Match report
A weakened 2nd team travelled to Southam to take on their first team and came away beaten, but not disgraced. Bowling first, Leamington had immediate success when Lewis Baker bowled Northants County Academy allrounder Jon Wigley first ball. Nathan Credgington bowled well with the stiff breeze but runs came steadily for the home side. After 45 overs Southam made a healthy 226, with Luke Nelly (82*) and skipper Chris Bramley (51) the main contributors. For Leamington all the bowlers had good periods but also had overs that cost too many boundaries.
In reply, Southams Greg Neale produced an excellent spell of seam bowling to reduce the Spa men to 18-3 off 12 overs. The 2 oldest Leamington batsmen Wollaston and Hawkes needed to consolidate and try and rebuild the innings. This they did to good effect taking the score to 100, whereupon Wollaston was adjudged LBW for 34. New batsman Williams stayed a while with his skipper and added a valuable 40 runs. But the asking rate had crept up to 10 an over and in a final flurry of runs and wickets the chase ended with the total on 194ao. Dave Hawkes finally out for a run a ball 91. A good game played on a really superb wicket.
