Leamington Cricket Club Lost 24 runs
Match report
Leamington travelled to table topping Norton Lindsey on Saturday in what proved a disappointing result. After much midweek rain Norton’s ground looked fantastic with the outfield in particular in great condition.
Winning the toss and bowling first the 3s got off to the perfect start reducing the hosts to 16-3 inside the first 8 over’s with Lee Cregde and Pardeep producing a fine opening spell. A 4th wicket partnership of 78 from home skipper Currall and Pozi steadied the ship for N&L and coupled with a flat middle part to the Leams bowling effort looked like helping the hosts produce a useful total. The wiley slow left arm for Wayne Killian helped checked the recovery and he returned fine figures of 10-2-28-3, he was supported well by Asah Ullah and Joe Jones who returned figures of 7-0-26-1 & 7-0-49-3 respectively. Joe Jones performed particularly well considering his first 4 over’s leaked 40 runs his last 3 over’s went for only 9 runs and he picked up 3 wickets. Norton were eventually bowled out for 190 in the 41st over, this was a great effort by Leamington whose fielding backed up the bowling with 3 excellent catches from messers Jones, Asad and Simmonds.
In reply the 3s innings never got going and with a mixture of tight bowling and general impatience Spa slipped to 115-9 with only Pardeep 41 and Stanton 19 offering any resistance. One last ray of light did prevail as a last wicket stand of 50 from Jack Bewick 30 not out and Asad Ullah 12 not out helped the score to a more respectable 165-9. On reflection this was a game Leamington had every opportunity to win and the batting performance did not back up the fine bowling effort and it was left to young Jack Bewick to show the senior players how it could be done. Roll on this week for a home game against Kineton
