Leamington Cricket Club Lost By 246 runs

Match report An inexperienced Leamington 1st XI continued their indifferent start to the season suffering a 246 run defeat at high-flying Brockhampton.

The day started positively enough for Leamington as captain Rob Williams won the toss and elected to bowl first. However, things soon went downhill as Hewlett (31) and Stebbings put on 72 for the first wicket. This was to be Leamington's only wicket for a while as Boroughs joined Stebbings at the crease as the pair put on a wonderful partnership of 297 for the second wicket as they took full advantage of a very disappointing bowling performance from Leamington.

Stebbings eventually fell for a magnificent 115 (136 balls - 12 x 4/2 x 6) off the bowling of Faisal Khalid towards the end of the innings but it was the innings of Boroughs who hit an incredible 190 off only 125 balls (26 x 4/6 x 6) that really caught the eye. Boroughs combined lusty blows with elegance as he well and truly took the game away from Leamington. Brockhampton eventually declared on a mammoth 383-4 off 53 overs.

In reply, despite an opening partnership of 55 between David Bailey (25) and Alex Phillips (39), Leamington were blown away by a very good Brockhampton attack who showed Leamington how to bowl on a wicket that offered plenty to the bowlers. It was that man Boroughs (15-5-59-4) who again stole the show as he formed an excellent partnership with Griffiths (16-8-36-4) as the pair helped to restrict Leamington to 137 all out. Perhaps the most telling statistic of the day was that Brockhampton bowled twenty maidens in comparison to Leamington's one.

Leamington host Wellington next week in a bottom of the table clash.
