Wellington v Leamington Cricket Club Under 16 on Sun 23 Sep 2012 at 11.00am
Leamington Cricket Club Won by 9 Wickets
Match report
Leamington's all-conquering Under 16 team march on to the MCCC Lords Taverners Final following Sunday's demolition of much-fancied Wellington.
On a dank and miserable morning at Harborne, Leamington asked the Shropshire side to bat first on what proved to be a troublesome wicket. Leamington's opening pair, Joe Jones and Will Field, bowled with pace, hostility and accuracy, and the latter was rewarded with the wicket of England triallist Aucott, who could only fend a lifting delivery to Josh Emery behind the sticks. Wellington's line up was no match for Spa's varied attack, whether it be the metronomic accuracy of Paul Lawrence, or the flight and guile of spin twins Darrel Williams and Rajgul Jabarkhain. Williams took 2 for 11, and Jabarkhain 3 for 11 in their alloted four overs, helped by some exemplary out cricket.
Wellington made a recovery of sorts from 44 for 7, to end on 72 without further loss after their 20 overs.
With rain in the air, Leamington set about their response with great resolution, and added 38 for the first wicket before Josh Boorman was bowled by Aucott. Jack Bewick continued in his rich vein of autumnal form, and he flayedt the Wellington bowlers, making 39 not out, whilst Darrel Williams eased to 15 not out including a hooked six of the rapid, but wayward, Aucott.
Thus Leamington reached their target of 73 at the rate of two runs per ball, just as the heavans opened.
The downpour meant that the Final, dur to be played at 3pm, was postponed. Therefore Leamington will play Worcester outfit Old Elizabethans at Harborne on Sunday 30 September, with a scheduled 2pm start. The Spa men hope to end a long and wet season on a high note!
