Chipping Campden v Leamington Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 08 Jun 2013 at 1.30pm
Leamington Cricket Club Won By 2 wickets
Match report
The IIIs notched another victory this week away at Chipping Campden but not without drama.
Bowling first Leamington started brightly by removing 3 of the top four batters cheaply with Paul Lawrence picking up 2 and Matthew Davison 1. This brought together Nichols & Moore who scored 48 & 32 respectively before Moore was bowled by Bopanna. Campden maintained a steady run rate but did lose wickets at regular intervals which slowed their rate in the latter overs and were eventually bowled out in the last over for 193. Mark Davison picked up 4 wickets, two of which were brilliant leg side stumping's by young Chris Calcott and he was well supported by Gaurav who finished for 1-30 off his 10 overs
Leamington lost veteran opener Paul Wilson early but this brought together league debutant Dan Clarkson and old timer Rob Ainscow who put on boundary laced 86 for the second wicket before Clarkson departed for a well made 54. The score moved onto 124-2 and a comfortable victory looked in sight before a middle order collapse reduced the IIIs to 164-7. Ainscow remained and was steering the team home before he was adjudged LBW for 82 which brought Paul Lawrence and Matt Davison together with 23 still needed off 3 overs. Scampered singles a couple of lusty blows meant 11 was needed off the final over and nerves were shredded. These nerves were quickly dispelled when Lawrence launched the first ball for 6 leaving 5 required off 5 balls, a quick single of the 2nd ball left young Matt Davison on strike. The field was brought in and Davison produced a great lofted extra cover drive for 4 - game over and fantastic result in a great game.
Leamington remain top and welcome the visit of Alster & Ragley at Arlington Avenue this week.
