Moreton in Marsh v Leamington Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 22 Jun 2013 at 1.30pm
Leamington Cricket Club Won by 68 runs
Match report
Another solid performance away against Moreton in Marsh saw the IIIs record another victory.
Losing the toss Leamington were asked to bat first on a green wicket in overcast conditions. A good platform looked to be laid by openers Wayne Killian & Dan Clarkson both reaching 20 before Killian unfortunately ruptured his achilles. Joe Somra and Clarkson took the score up to 60 before Somra departed. Clarkson continued his fine form with an array of boundaries and was well supported by Lian Killian before both men departed for 49 & 24 respectively. This left Leamington 144-6 with 5 overs to spare and in the face of accurate bowling from the hosts limped to 166-8 off their 45 overs - at least 20 short of a par score.
With 10 overs of bowling lost through the injury to Wayne Killian and also only having 10 players a concerted effort in the field was needed. Opening bowlers Matt Davison and Gaurav Gandecha both took a wicket apiece from their opening spells but a good stand of 50 between Henshaw & Hardiman looked to have Moreton handily placed at 75-2. Change bowlers Joe Somra and Lee Credgington entered the fray and with Somra picking up the wicket of Hardiman in his first over and Gaurav orchestrating a fantastic run out of Henshaw a change fortune looked in the offering. Somra and Credgington bowled full and straight and were rewarded with 4 & 3 wickets each and reduced Moreton to 102 all out taking 8 wickets for 30 runs with 7 batsmen clean bowled.
A great team performance saw Leamington maintain their position at the top of the league and see the visit of Catherine de Barnes this week at the halfway stage of the season.
