Leamington Cricket Club 3rd XI v Tanworth & Camp Hill on Sat 13 Jul 2013 at 1.30pm
Leamington Cricket Club Won by 164 runs
Match report
On the hottest day of the year for 7 years (or longer if you listen to Guy Stanton) Leamington thankfully won the toss and asked visitors Tanworth & Camp Hill to field first.
On a bone dry wicket Leamington openers Dave Hawkes & James Cowan got off to a bright start before Cowan was out LBW for 11. Joe Somra and Hawkes batted confidently and took the score over 100 before Somra unluckily played on for a well made 28. Hawkes was looking imperious at the other end and was punishing anything loose and rock solid in defense. Mark Davison joined Hawkes and and put on over 100 with Davison hitting the ball to all parts and Hawkes stroking his way to his well deserved century. The pair took the total to in excess of 250 before both departed in quick succession but a quick fire stand of 45 between Ben Cowan (26) and Matt Dale (14) took the total to an imposing 317-6 off 45 overs.
After tea conditions were slightly easier for the fielding team and a fine opening spell from Dan McCarthy and Matt Davison saw them remove 3 of the top 4 inside the first 13 overs. Change bowlers Somra and Cowan both bowled with great line and lengths restricting the run rate whilst picking up a wicket each. When Lee Credgington was introduced to the attack a flurry off wickets started to fall and in his 8 over spell he finished with fine figures of 8-2-28-4 and was helped with an awesome slip catch by James Cowan. Tanworth were eventually dismissed for 153 in the 44th over.
A good win to put Spa back on winning ways after 2 successive defeats.
