Leamington Cricket Club Lost by 59 runs

Match report Leamington lost their second successive Division One match at the hands of Wellington, by 59 runs.

Having won the toss, stand in captain David Bailey had no hesitation in bowling first due to a bit of moisture in the wicket. Wellington were soon struggling at 50-3. Wickets continued to tumble but the innings was kept together by the exciting teenager, Joe Clarke, who scored a very responsible 64 to help take his side to 201. Captain Wendell Wagner chipped in with 20 but wides, for the second week running, were Leamington's downfall with 29 conceded. Tom Warner bowled 10 overs straight at the start of the innings in a brilliant spell and was unlucky to only pick up 1-22. Olly Williams (3-35), Paul Rowe (2-43) and Faisal Khalid (3-35) all chipped in.

In reply, Leamington never really got going and were soon struggling at 20-2 thanks to an excellent opening burst from Wagner (2-20). The away team continued to lose wickets at regular intervals and at 86-7 were well and truly out the game. Some late lusty blows from Rowe (34) was not enough to save Leamington from a disappointing 58 run loss.

Leamington will be hoping to get back on track on Saturday when they welcome neighbors Kenilworth Wardens to Arlington Avenue in the most eagerly anticipated fixture of the season. The game starts at 12pm and everyone is welcome.
