Ombersley v Leamington Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 03 Aug 2013 at 12 Noon
Leamington Cricket Club Won by 23 Runs
Match report
Leamington continued their fine run of form by recording one of their most memorable victories in recent years.
Losing the toss and batting first, the visitors made a tentative start on a worn, used wicket. But, through Richard Swann (20) and Luke Radford (32) the visitors made a steady start. However, the introduction of spin duo Slade (6-22) and Worcestershire's D'Oliveira (3-30) saw the visitors dramatically slide to 98 all out as only Grant Thornton (14) offered any resistance.
In reply, Paul Rowe and Tom Warner (1-10) bowled well with the new ball with Warner picking up Steele for 15. However, to mirror the first innings, the introduction of Neil Smith alongside Paul Rowe who retired his seamers (for the time being) to bowl his dangerous off spinners, saw the home side slump to 72-9 despite a brave 24 from youngster Hammond. With the game still in the balance, the real icing on the cake came from substitute fielder Shaun Williams, farther of Darrel, who took a spectacular one handed catch to clinch the final wicket and a vital 24 points for the visitors. Rowe picked up his second five wicket haul of the season and finished with the excellent figures of 17-6-36-5 while Smith showed all of his experience to finish with 11-3-21-4.
The win takes Leamington up to 9th place and out of the relegation zone as well as stretching the unbeaten run to four matches. Leamington welcome Wellington this Saturday.
