Match report Leamington made progress in the Coventry Charity Knockout Cup with a tight win over Standard on Tuesday evening.

Batting first, Leamington made 171 – 6 in 20 overs thanks to fine contributions from David Bailey (41) and debutant Hector Bevitt-Smith (33). A late flurry from Aussie ‘keeper Ollie Thompson and Shabaaz Alam ensured Leamington’s competitive total. For Standard Patel and Hormantschuk each took two wickets.

Standard made a rapid start enjoying the pace offered by Leamington’s opening bowlers. They passed 50 in the 6th over and were well-placed at 94 – 1. Alam then took two quick wickets, and Jason Butler three later on as Standard began to falter. However the award of six penalty runs for a slow over rate brought victory back into view, but a tight last over from Luke Radford, got Leamington passed the winning post. Standard closed on 166 – 8.
