Leamington Cricket Club 1st XI v Halesowen on Sat 26 Jul 2014 at 12.00
Leamington Cricket Club Won By 112 Runs

Match report Leamington recorded another comfortable victory in their quest for promotion after brushing Halesowen aside in a 112 run victory at Arlington Avenue.

Leamington won the toss and elected to bat first on a dry wicket and once pace came off the ball, scoring became difficult. Despite losing Max Webber (12) and Mark Lewis (3) early to leave the score 51-2, captain David Bailey (27) joined opener Shahbaz Alam in a valuable partnership of 57 against some accurate bowling on a wicket that was starting to take spin and show signs of invariable bounce. Once Bailey departed, Alam went on to compile an excellent and very disciplined 58 and was well supported by the lower order who helped up the run rate to see Leamington to 208 all out with one ball of their 55 overs remaining. Mark Ashcroft (27), Grant Thornton (20) and Tom Warner (20) all provided much needed impetus towards the end of the innings. For the visitors, Richard Brooker was by far the pick of the bowlers with an excellent 6-75 off his 17 overs of leg spin.

In reply, Leamington's opening pace duo of Grant Thornton (2-20) and Tom Warner (1-14) were too hot to handle for Halesowen's top order as they reduced the visitors to 15-3. Things did not get any better once pace was taken off as Nabeel Ashgar continued his fine season with 2-27 and Jagdeep Khurana (1-5) picked up his first wicket for the first team but it was Mark Ashcroft (12-6-16-4) who bowled with great control to rip through the spine of the Halesowen batting line up. Only captain Faisal Shahid looked comfortable with a spirited 32* as he watched his side crumble to 96 all out during a very professional bowling and fielding display by the home side.

The 24 points picked up by Leamington sees them stretch their lead at the top of the table to 38 points over Penkridge and 66 points over Brewood, who both suffered disappointing results over the weekend. Leamington travel to Whitchurch on Saturday and will be looking to continue their unbeaten season.
