Leamington Cricket Club 4th XI v Broadway 2nd XI on Sat 30 Aug 2014 at 13.30
Leamington Cricket Club Won By 3 Wickets
Match report
Leamington’s 4th XI played their final game of the season at Arlington Avenue, and shaded a tight match over previous table-toppers Broadway II.
Given the importance of the fixture both teams strengthened their selected sides, and Broadway batted first on a dampish but true wicket. Struggling early on against the pace of Will Field, Broadway inched to 65 – 3 off 17 overs. The visitors took a greater liking to the change bowling, and went through the gears gradually as the scoring rate increased. Broadway closed their innings on 204 – 9, a challenging total for Leamington’s batsmen.
Leamington’s response was built on the match-winning contribution from Rob Williams, returning after many weeks out with injury. His unbeaten 123 was supported by cameos innings from Leamington’s middle order. Williams timed his innings to perfection and hit the winning runs in the last over, easing Leamington to 205 – 7.
