Leamington Cricket Club Midweek XI v Penleigh & Essendon Grammar School on Mon 30 Jun 2014 at 18.00
Leamington Cricket Club Won by 4 Wickets
Match report
A youthful Leamington midweek XI gaimed some small consolation for successive Ashes defeats on Monday. Melbourne tourists, Penleigh & Essendon Grammar School, were welcomed to Arlington Avenue, and batted first on a warm summer's evening.
With jet lag very much in evidence PEGS struggled against testing bowling on pitches slower than those experienced in Victoria. A late flurry and Leamington's usual generous donation of wides saw PEGS close on 102 - 9 in 20 overs.
PEGS bowled with rather more urgency and had Leamington in trouble until Max Webber, the Club's own Aussie, took advantage of some loose bowling to edge Leamington ahead. He perished tamely in the end but Chris Calcott hit some lusty blows as Leamington eased home by 4 wickets.
