Leamington Cricket Club 1st XI v Woverhampton on Sat 20 Apr 2019 at 12.00
Leamington Cricket Club Won By 6wickets
Match report
The first team hosted Wolverhampton in the new pared down version of the Birmingham and District Premier League which now consists of just two divisions. Skipper Jon Wigley won the toss and asked Wolves to bat on what seemed to be a good track. His decision was rewarded as Joe Midgley struck twice early with the aid of Chris Calcott behind the stumps. Wolves regrouped through Amritpal Singh and Jack Stanley, taking the score to 84 before Singh was removed by Matt Davison for a patient 37. Three further quick wickets, including two for the returning Will Mashinge saw Wolves stutter to 106 for 6, but Stanley found support from Aaron Patel, as they added 53 before Stanley was pinned leg before by Perry Derrick for a patient 55. Patel made 24 and keeper Charlie Mackleworth a breezy unbeaten 27, before Derrick wrapped up the last two wickets as Wolves were dismissed for 199. Derrick was the pick with 3 for 35, with fine support from Davison, Mashinge and Midgley each taking a pair of wickets.
In response Spa lost Luke De Souza early on but new recruit Harrison Smith and Waqar Ahmed moved Leamington to 33 before Ahmed was bowled by Aneesh Kapil. Oxfordshire's Smith set out his stall to build a major innings and he was supported by Wigley as they made steady inroads towards the winning target. Zayn Hussain claimed Wigley for 28 with the score on 123, and Smith became his second victim having made a well-crafted 74. Mashinge and the returning Ollie Currill made light of the remaining target adding 50 at a run a ball as Leamington eased to 204 for 4 and a six wicket win with three overs in hand. Mashinge made an unbeaten 37 and former Gloucestershire man Currill 28
